The legendary Silk Road – the world’s main trade route for 1500 years
Follow in the footsteps of former caravaners on one of the most historic roads in the world. This 6,400 km long ancient network of trade routes from the Caspian Sea to the Tien Shan Mountains linked China, the Indian subcontinent, Persia, Europe, Africa and the Arab world throughout the ages. The most important trading centres were Samarkand and Kashgar.
Because of the slow and dangerous route, only luxuries were transported to Europe. Many Chinese inventions, ideas and goods spread to Europe via the Silk Road and the Roman emperors got their coveted silk from mysterious China.
This tour explores the diverse cultures along the famous Silk Road and numerous historical sites, including 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
