We can admire the summer activities of milk whales in the White Sea in the waters of Solovetsk! Unforgettable experiences: whales, sea, history
The milk whale is, as its name suggests, a milky white animal of the White Sea. The chick is dark brown at birth and only gradually turns white at around 6 years of age.
Solovki Island and its infamous Solovetsk Monastery are known in history as the headquarters of the prison camps from 1923 to 1937. Social and sociable milk whales raise their young in the bay and near the Solovki whale beach, so you can watch the whales while standing on the beach stones.
The monastery’s “Kremlin” is exotic: high walls, watchtowers, domes on the roofs of churches. The small Russian village of 1,000 inhabitants around it is like something from another era.
