We start on Europe's highest railway, the Albula-Bernina line, which takes us from Chur in Switzerland to Milan in northern Italy. Along the way we pass beautiful lakes, stunning country bridges and the highest pass, the Ospizio Bernina at 2253 m.a.s.l. The views of the Alps are unrivalled. Another highlight is the train journey on the Ligurian Riviera on the Cinque Terre Express, which takes us to the lovely villages of Vernazza and Corniglia in the Cinque Terre National Park. From Cinque Terre we travel by train to Rome, where we take the pulse of the eternal city. The longest train journey of the trip leaves Rome and takes us to Taormina at the foot of Mount Etna, where we admire the Roman amphitheatre, unrivalled views of Mount Etna and perhaps enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean. The final train journey of the trip, the old narrow-gauge Circumetna railway, takes us to the foothills of Etna, to the village of Randazzo. The village has several times been threatened to be submerged by the lava flow, it has miraculously always been saved. The last part of the train takes us slightly around Etna to historic and beautiful Catania, the final destination of the journey."}
