A new production for those interested in culture, military history and adventure. For lovers of military history, a trip to Kiev, the missile silo of Pervomaisk, the seaside city of Odessa and the exciting catacombs, or labyrinth of tombs, that operated there. <\/p>\n
During the Cold War, the Soviet Union had the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, directed at strategic targets in America and Europe. In Ukraine, between Kiev and Odessa, the Museum of Strategic Missile Sites has opened, equipped as if it were still in use. <\/p>\n
At Pervomaysk, we descend 40 metres into the ground to press the red button on the missile base control centre, where the systems are activated and we see the silos open in ten seconds and all ten rockets take off. We see with our own eyes one of the most powerful nuclear missiles, rocket ss-18 (Satan). <\/p>\n
Another highlight of the trip is Odessa’s catacombs. The tombs were carved from limestone in the 19th century and during World War II Soviet troops moved through them. As you move through the corridors, you may come across skeletons that have never been seen before. In addition to skeletons, the catacombs contain ammunition caches and smugglers’ caches. The maze of catacombs spreads over a network of more than 400 km around the city.<\/p>\n<\/div>
