Flight from Helsinki to Vladivostok via Moscow departs at 13.25. Connecting flight from Moscow at 20.45.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 2 Hilly and relaxed Vladivostok (L)<\/strong><br \/>\nThe plane lands in Vladivostok at 12.15 local time. Meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. One hour of relaxation at the hotel, followed by lunch at a local restaurant.  <\/p>\n<p>After lunch, we take a three-hour guided tour of the interesting sights of legendary Vladivostok. The city is a bustling, modern city with a Western European style. We will visit the city&#8217;s historic fortress and the stunning viewpoint of Orlinoe Gnezdo. The city has always been very international because of its location. Shipping and trade are visible in the streetscape. Vladivostok is known as the San Francisco of Russia.     <\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 3 Vladivostok Russky Island (A)<\/strong><br \/>\nBreakfast at hotel. The highlight of the day is a visit to Russky Island and the Maritime Museum. Russky Island is connected to Vladivostok by the largest diamond bridge in the world. During the Soviet era, the island was used by the military and was only accessible with special permission. The tour ends in the centre of Vladivostok, followed by free time. Vladivostok has a wide range of attractions and restaurants. There are certainly places to visit and restaurants to suit all tastes.      <\/p>\n<p>At 19.30 meeting in the hotel lobby, transfer to Vladivostok railway station. In the evening at 21.00 departure by train number 5 from Vladivostok station to Khabarovsk in a 4-person sleeper cabin. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 4 On the Amur River Khabarovsk and Khekhtsir Nature Reserve (A,L)<\/strong><br \/>\nAt 08.15 we arrive in Khabarovsk. A local guide will meet you. Transfer to Intourist or similar hotel for breakfast.  <\/p>\n<p>After breakfast at the hotel, we set off on a guided tour of Khabarovsk. After lunch check-in at the hotel. <\/p>\n<p>Around 15.00 transfer to the unique nature reserve of Khekhtsir, with a short hike (about 40 minutes) in the taiga forest near the banks of the Amur River. According to legend, the name of Khekhtsir comes from the name of the shaman Kheecchier. Dinner and accommodation in Khabarovsk.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 5 Khabarovsk<\/strong><br \/>\nAfter breakfast, transfer to Khabarovsk railway station. Departure by train number 7 from Khabarovsk railway station to Novosibirsk at 11.28 am.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Days 5 &#8211; 9 Wide countryside from Khabarovsk to Novosibirsk<\/strong><br \/>\nToday our train journey continues west. We travel via the Chita, Trans-Manchuria and Baikal-Amur radar crossings, Birobidzhan and Lake Baikal to Novosibirsk. <\/p>\n<p>4 overnight stays on the train, in a 2-person sleeper cabin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 10 Novosibirsk &#8211; Capital of Siberia<\/strong><br \/>\nAt 05.26 we arrive in Novosibirsk, our guide will meet us at Novosibirsk railway station, transfer to the hotel. Relaxation until 12.00. Transfer for lunch at a Siberian restaurant, followed by a guided tour of Novosibirsk. Accommodation in Marins Park***+ hotel.   <\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 11 Siberian countryside and villages<\/strong><br \/>\nAfter breakfast in the hotel, check-out and departure for a full-day countryside tour. We will visit the villages of Kolyva, Matveevka and Dvurechie. Kolyvan is one of the most interesting places in the Novosibirsk region and one of the oldest settlements in the region. Located on the Ob River, the village was founded much earlier than the capital of Siberia, in 1713. As the nomads never invaded Kolyvan and the Russian border moved further south, the town lost its military function, but people continued to live there and soon it became a trading post with many wealthy merchants. Lunch with a local family in the village of Matveevka. We will visit a local farmer, we will also have a Siberian sauna. We will also visit the village of Dvurechie, only 20 min away. Local dairy products are available there. Train tickets will be purchased on the way to Novosibirsk.         <\/p>\n<p>At 22.05 the train departs for Tatarstan. Two overnight stays on the train, in a 4-person sleeper cabin. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Days 11-13 En route to the legendary Tatarstan<\/strong><br \/>\nTatarstan&#8217;s capital Kazan on the Volga River (A,I)<br \/>\nWe arrive in Kazan at 05.34. Meet your local guide, transfer to your hotel. Breakfast and free time to relax until 12.00.  <\/p>\n<p>A city tour of Kazan, visiting many of the city&#8217;s main highlights. In the Kremlin we will see the Spasskaya Tower, the Kul Sharif Mosque, Pushechny Dvor (the Old Cannon Square) and the Suyumbike Tower, followed by a visit to Kazan University, the Old Tatar Fortress, Kaban Lake, Kremlevskaya Street and Freedom Square. If you have bought a ticket on your own for only one of the intermediate stations, you must ensure that you can still buy a connecting ticket. It is advisable to go to the ticket office at the station and reserve a new seat. If you stay overnight at an intermediate station for more than 72 hours (3 days), you must register at a hotel or with the police in Russia.   <\/p>\n<p>Russian visas are valid throughout the country. If for some reason you miss the train by accident, the only options are to try to catch the train with a taxi and get on again at the next station. This is especially true if all your travel documents and belongings are left on the train. Once the train has stopped, there is no reason to go beyond the platform.    <\/p>\n<p>At the Mongolian\/Chinese and Russian\/Chinese borders, new bogies and axle pairs are replaced on each wagon. The changeover period is spent in the wagon and the changeover of the axles is monitored. The wagon is lifted slightly into the air and new &#8220;axle pairs&#8221; are put underneath. The Eastern Express is a nice luxury train for tourists, while the Trans-Siberian is a normal long-distance train. However, the travel companionship may be as good if not better. On the train, 1st class cars have more space and slightly wider beds than 2nd class cars.
