The legend of Armenia&#8217;s birth tells of a God who stumbled while creating the world and the stones in his hand were hurled at Armenia. Rocks, gorges, mountains and stunning scenery abound, with most of the country over 1 000 metres above sea level. Ararat, the holy mountain of the Armenians, is now on the Turkish side, but the towering 5 000-metre-high mountain, covered in permafrost, can be seen far inland on a clear day.   <\/p>\n<h3>Armenian culture has strong influences from both East and West, resembling its neighbours such as Russia, Georgia and Iran, but also the Mediterranean region such as Greece. Yerevan in particular has a European feel with its caf\u00e9s, but the countryside is more clearly oriental. <\/h3>\n<p>The capital, Yerevan, is a beautiful and relaxed city with plenty to see and do, and is known as the city of coffee, jazz and brandy.<\/p>\n<h3>Iran &#8211; Persia&#8217;s luxurious heir flourishes with blue domes, silk carpets, intricate fabrics and rich cuisine.<\/h3>\n<p>Sometimes you have to travel into the unknown to expand your knowledge and break stereotypes. Most people think that the difference between Iran and Iraq is only one letter. Now we want to break this stereotype. Iranians &#8211; Persians &#8211; are friendly and curious people. If you follow the &#8216;rule of three times&#8217;, there will be no problems. The rule of three times is very common in the Middle East. If you are offered something generous, like a ride to the airport, chances are it&#8217;s just out of politeness. Your job is to refuse at least twice. If the Persian offers a third time, you can accept the offer.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;width:100%;\"><div class=\"fusion-separator-border sep-double\" style=\"--awb-height:20px;--awb-amount:20px;border-color:#ffffff;border-top-width:18px;border-bottom-width:18px;\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-modal modal fade modal-1 iran\" tabindex=\"-1\" role=\"dialog\" aria-labelledby=\"modal-heading-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\" style=\"--awb-border-color:#ebebeb;--awb-background:#ffffff;\"><div class=\"modal-dialog modal-lg\" role=\"document\"><div class=\"modal-content fusion-modal-content\"><div class=\"modal-header\"><button class=\"close\" type=\"button\" data-dismiss=\"modal\" aria-hidden=\"true\" aria-label=\"Close\">&times;<\/button><h3 class=\"modal-title\" id=\"modal-heading-1\" data-dismiss=\"modal\" aria-hidden=\"true\">Itinerary<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"modal-body fusion-clearfix\">\n<p><strong>Day 1 The journey begins <\/strong><br \/>\nOur journey begins at 16.10 from Helsinki-Vantaa airport with a flight via Kiev to Yerevan. We arrive at Zvartnots airport at 00.55 and transfer to our hotel in Yerevan. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 2 Yerevan<\/strong> <strong>(A)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yerevan&#8217;s ancient culture blends with modern life. We start our tour at Republic Square, from where we continue to Cascade: an open-air museum of modern art and the &#8220;Mother Armenia&#8221; triumphal park. We will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Zvarnots ruins, dating back to the 700s.  <\/p>\n<p>After a self-service lunch, we will visit Ararat Brandy, a brandy factory in Yerevan, where we will taste brandies from different years. These brandies have been the pride of the country for generations and have become a symbol of Armenia worldwide. For years, Stalin offered Armenian brandy to Winston Churchill.  <\/p>\n<p>After a brandy tasting, we take a coffee break at the retro-style Jazzve caf\u00e9, known for its relaxed atmosphere and sweet treats. &#8220;Jazzve&#8221; means the small cup where the coffee is brewed. Free time. Yerevan offers a variety of options for an evening out, and everyone can plan their own programme according to their own preferences. We recommend a stop at a jazz club, it is such a big part of Armenian culture. Yerevan is considered the city of jazz music, and for good reason; its roots go back to the 1930s.     <\/p>\n<p>Overnight in a hotel in Yerevan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 3 Yerevan &#8211; Arinji catacombs &#8211; Garn Gorge &#8211; Geghard Monastery (A,L)<\/strong><br \/>\nAfter breakfast we head towards the village of Garn. On the way we will stop at the catacombs, which took one Armenian man 20 years to build. It is impressive to see how a simple pit for storing potatoes has been transformed over time into a real work of art and wonder. We will also visit the only pagan temple in Garn, a picturesque monument from the Hellenistic period and a convincing example of ancient Armenian architecture. The Temple of Garn is situated in a magnificent location on a mountain slope, overlooking the Garnin Gorge.    <\/p>\n<p>We take a 1-1.5 hour walk along the scenic river valley, where the basalt hills reach part of the Garnin Gorge. This unique and beautiful natural monument of the Garni Gorge is also known as the &#8220;Symphony of Stones&#8221; (Alternatively, the gorge can also be reached by SUV). Here we will have the opportunity to enjoy the sweet melodies of the Armenian Duduk performed by a local musician. Armenian duduk music has been on the World Heritage List since 2005. For lunch, we will enjoy the home of a local resident, where we will have the opportunity to see how traditional Armenian lavash bread is made in an underground oven, the tonir. Garn Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.      <\/p>\n<p>In the evening we drive back to Yerevan, where the evening programme is left to everyone to plan. Today is your last chance to admire the light and music show in Republic Square. <\/p>\n<p><b>Day 4 Yerevan &#8211; Noravank &#8211; Tatev &#8211; Goris<span lang=\"fi-FI\"> <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">(A,L)<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"fi-FI\">After breakfast, we head towards Noravank Monastery. <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">The Noravank Monastery was built in the 1300s and is located in the <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">in a magnificent location<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"> in a gorge between the mountains. <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">This monastery attracts thousands of visitors a year, not only for its architecture and history, but also for the magnificent surrounding nature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"fi-FI\">Lunch at a local cave caf\u00e9, then we continue our journey towards <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">surrounded by beautiful, high mountains <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">with a population of 20 000 <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">small town<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">a<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"> Gori. <\/span> <span lang=\"fi-FI\">Here we find the historic and most famous monastery in Armenia, Tatev. Tatev is a true architectural masterpiece and is called a monastery built &#8220;on the edge of nothing&#8221;. To get to the monastery    <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">a really long cable car,<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">  Along the wings of Tatev, where breathtaking views open up before us. We stay at a hotel in Goris. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Day 5 Goris &#8211; Tabriz &#8211; official tourist capital of 2018<span lang=\"fi-FI\"> <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">(A,<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">L<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">)<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"fi-FI\">After breakfast, we head towards the Iranian border, where we arrive at around 14.00. You will have the opportunity to take   <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">take a packed lunch from the hotel<\/span> <span lang=\"fi-FI\">for an additional fee<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">.  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">On the Armenian-Iranian border  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">on<\/span> <span lang=\"fi-FI\">a border check, after which our journey continues<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">  Via Jolfa  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">towards Tabrizia<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">.  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">On the way we stop for a short break<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">  walk<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">for<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">  Elgoli Park<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">on<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">, which is home to the popular  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">rectangular  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">artificial lake.  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">At the lake we admire the beautiful scenery and the<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">howling at the same tempo  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">local  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">with people.  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">Walking tour<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">  Following  <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">we head towards the hotel<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"fi-FI\"><b>P<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"><b>Today<\/b><\/span><b> <\/b><span lang=\"fi-FI\"><b>6<\/b><\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"><b> Tabriz &#8211; Kandovan <\/b><\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"><b>hollowed out slope<\/b><\/span><b> <\/b><span lang=\"fi-FI\"><b>village (A,L)<\/b><\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"fi-FI\">Our visit to Tabriz includes the historic bazaar of Tabriz<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">i<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">, which <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">one of the oldest bazaars in the Middle East and one of the largest in the world.<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">n<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"> covered bazaar, <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">which also <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">It<\/span> <span lang=\"fi-FI\">is made up of several interconnected and covered brick structures and enclosed plazas with many different uses<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">. <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">The bazaar has its own sections for shoes, carpets, gold and jewellery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"fi-FI\">Our journey through history continues with a visit to the Blue Mosque and the Qajar Museum. We will then make an excursion to the magnificent village of Kandovan,   <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">where there are <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">about 55 km away. <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">Here we see dwellings carved out of volcanic rock, where people still live.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Day 7: Tabriz &#8211; the unknown jewel of Zanjan Iran<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"fi-FI\">We leave Tabriz early in the morning to drive towards the historic town of Zanjan. In Zanjan, we visit a large bazaar and the Salt-men museum, which gives us a window on the time of our ancestors in Sassanid   <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">dynastian<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">  the era. We will also visit the Zoroastrian temple, Takht Soleyman <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">(Throne of Solomon)<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">, <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">. <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">(A,<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">L<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Day 8 Zanjan &#8211; Qazvin &#8211; Mount Elbrus Tehran <span lang=\"fi-FI\">(A,<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">L<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">)<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"fi-FI\">Today we continue our journey towards the capital of Iran, Tehran.  <\/span>Including the suburbs of Tehran, Iran&#8217;s capital is one of the largest metropolises in the world, with over 15 million inhabitants. What sets it apart from Western cities, however, is its strict adherence to Islamic law. <span lang=\"fi-FI\">But before <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">the bustle of the capital<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">, we stop in Qazvin, the first Safavid capital, where we visit the Jameh Mosque and the local bazaar.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p><b>Day 9 Tehran <span lang=\"fi-FI\">(A,<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">I)<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"fi-FI\">The last day of our trip. <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">It is not worth travelling to Iran <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">miss<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"> Tehran, although there are many other places of interest in the country. <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">To learn as much as possible about the Iranian capital, we will visit the best sights of Tehran, such as the Golestan Palace, the National Museum of Iran and the <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">National Treasures Museum<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">where you can visit the<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"><b> <\/b><\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">The Persian crown jewels shine with breathtaking brilliance. Also on display is the world&#8217;s largest pink 182-carat Darya-e-Noor diamond.   <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">Golestan&#8217;s <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">magnificent <\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">palace<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\">complex<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"> consists of<\/span>eight buildings, mainly museums, and a garden in the middle. The best time to visit Golestan Palace is in spring, when the orange blossoms in the garden are in full bloom. The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. <span lang=\"fi-FI\">We enjoy a farewell dinner at a local<\/span><span lang=\"fi-FI\"> restaurant serving <\/span> traditional<span lang=\"fi-FI\">Iranian<\/span> dishes.    <\/p>\n<p><b>P<\/b><b>Today<\/b><b> <\/b><b>10<\/b><b> Home<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Our flight departs Tehran via Kiev to Helsinki-Vantaa at 05.15, so pick up from the
