Today, however, the city is almost in ruins and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The nature of Greater Bolgar delights visitors and the scenery is like something out of a postcard.  <\/p>\n<p>The ancient town of Jelabuga, surrounded by old forests, is home to beautiful churches and old mansions. Breakfast at the hotel.<\/p>\n<p>From 11-14.00 a city tour of Kazan. The tour is a great start to your trip and takes in many of the city&#8217;s main highlights. <\/p>\n<p>In the Kremlin we will see the Spasskaya Tower, the Kul Sharif Mosque, Pushechny Dvor (the Old Cannon Square) and the Suyumbike Tower, followed by a visit to Kazan University, the Old Tatar Fortress, Kaban Lake, Kremlevskaya Street and Freedom Square. Free time, in the evening theatre or ballet (programme to be confirmed).<br \/>\nAccommodation in an Ibis*** hotel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 3 KAZAN-BOLGAR-KAZAN (195 km in direction, A, I)<br \/>\n<\/strong>Breakfast at hotel. Full day excursion to the historic city of Bolgar. <\/p>\n<p>At one time, Bolgar served as the &#8220;northern Mecca&#8221; for Russian Muslims. White-stone structures, fortresses, mosques, minarets and mausoleums were an important part of the Kama River landscape. Lunch from 13.00-14.00.  <\/p>\n<p>Return to Kazan around 20.00. Free time.
